FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

The term “lockout/tagout” refers to specific practices and procedures to safeguard workers from the unexpected energizing or start-up of machinery and equipment, or the release of hazardous energy during service or maintenance activities. Lockout/Tagout explains the importance of lockout/tagout in protecting the health and safety of workers.  Ultimately, the goal of this course is to educate participants as to what a lockout device is and when Lockout-Tagout should be used in the work place. The course examines basic workplace safety tenets and examines the specific stages and procedures of the Lockout-Tagout process.

This is an online only course.

As this is a self-study online course, participants may take it whenever at any time.  Upon registering the participant shall receive an email containing a PIN and website URL to login and access the course.  Both those credentials will be needed each time the course is accessed.  It may take up until 24 hours after registration for the PIN to be generated and the email to be sent.

The course is divided into 4 modules:

 


  1. Introduction
  2. Injury prevention
  3. Equipment shutdown and isolation
  4. Procedure of lockout-tagout.

Each module has its own test in which the participant must earn 100% in order to advance to the next module or complete the course.

On average, the course takes between 1.5 and 3 hours to complete.  As this is a self-paced course, the time it truly takes varies greatly on the participant.

Upon successfully completing the course, the participant will be able to print a completion certificate.

COURSE OUTLINE

WHAT IF I FAIL ANY OF THE TESTS?

You need 100% on each module test in order to advance to the next module or to complete the course.  If you fail you can repeat the test as many times as necessary to reach the passing mark.  Each test will be unique as the test randomly draws questions from the test bank.

WHO SHOULD TAKE THIS COURSE?

Employers should train all workers in the basic concepts of hazardous energy control, including energy isolation, locking and tagging of control devices, verifying de-energization, and clearing danger points before re-energizing equipment. Workers whose duties involve installation, maintenance, service, or repair work should be trained in the detailed control procedures required for their particular equipment.

WHO CAN I ASK FOR HELP WITH THE COURSE?

As this is an online self-study course, there is no in-person or phone-in support for participants who want help with the course content.  However, should there be an accessibility or overall customer service issue, please feel free to contact our office for assistance.

DO I HAVE TO DO THE ENTIRE COURSE IN AT ONE TIME?

You may leave the course at anytime and resume where you left off.  There is no restriction on how many times you can access the course.
